Florida man sues owner of three dogs after attack

Three dogs, including one deemed dangerous, will continue to live in Hawthorne with their owner after the Putnam County Animal Control department concluded an investigation into two attacks allegedly involving them. Recent attacks sent two people to the hospital, and one victim said that Animal Control's decision did not reflect his point of view.

"[The] report made it sound like, and this isn't just coming from me, but others who read it too, that I provoked the dogs," the victim said. He claims animal control should have removed the dogs from the owners' care and possibly euthanized them to prevent further injuries. He also said he would appeal the result of the investigation and is suing the owner of the dogs.

It is rare that man's best friend becomes dangerous, but it does happen occasionally. Domestic animals like pet dogs may attack humans or other dogs if they feel threatened, and larger breeds can cause serious injury or even death in an unlucky encounter.

Florida has laws that state dog owners are responsible for maintaining control over their animals to prevent injury or damage to others and their property. Criminal charges may be pressed against owners of dangerous animals after multiple incidents, and victims of domesticated animal attacks may file claims for financial damages that include medical expenses.

An attorney may prepare and file a lawsuit against the owner of a dog that has attacked a person. This may be the last resort to rectify a dog bite case, as some cases are not resolved by authorities to the full satisfaction of the victim.
