Tampa man killed in hit-and-run car crash

Driving is the most popular way to get around in Florida, and every kind of vehicle is somewhere on the roads of the Sunshine State. Although the roads are generally safe due to the attention of good drivers, accidents can happen at the risk of drivers, passengers and pedestrians.

Several dangers are more common than others, allowing smart drivers to avoid hazardous situations. Times and places with low visibility, such as dawn or dusk, can make it harder to avoid other cars that may be out of their lane. Tight curves that create blind spots are also prone to collisions.

One of the most important rules for traffic is to never abandon the scene of an accident. Minor accidents like fender-benders can be resolved without police involvement as long as drivers exchange information, but any accident causing injury or serious damage must be brought to the attention of law enforcement or emergency services.

A Tampa man lost his life and the passenger in his vehicle was critically injured after a car rear-ended his truck on U.S. Route 301. The collision pushed the truck across the highway's median into the southbound side, where the vehicle flipped and nearly ejected both occupants.

The driver of the car fled the scene in another car, and the Florida Highway Patrol are currently seeking both drivers as part of an investigation into the accident. The driver may face criminal charges related to the collision as well as possible civil penalties.

Victims of serious car accidents and their survivors have the right to seek financial restitution from parties at fault. An attorney may help victims and their families determine the best way forward in civil law.
