Dump truck collision near Pensacola causes fatality

There are few pleasures in the United States more sublime than hitting the road and experiencing the freedom of finding your own way, whether its a cross-country road trip or a cross-county shopping run. Conversely, there are few surprises that are worse than a car accident.

Minor collisions happen all the time in Florida, but truck collisions tend to be worse. These crashes often end up causing extensive damage to vehicles and injuries to drivers and passengers due to the sheer mass of massive commercial vehicles. This is one of the reasons that truck drivers require extra licensing and testing to work.

Unfortunately, a man lost his life in northwest Florida recently because of a collision with a truck after its driver fulfilled another legal requirement of driving a heavy vehicle. A dump truck was reentering U.S. Highway 90 after stopping at a weigh station when a car ran into it.

The accident in Escambia County is being investigated by the Florida Highway Patrol. It initially appeared that alcohol was not a factor in the collision, although the release of further details is pending a traffic homicide investigation. The 39-year-old driver of the dump truck stopped at the scene of the accident to assist.

It is vital for drivers on Florida's roads and highways to take care around semis, dump trucks and other heavy equipment. Victims of accidents in which a truck driver was at fault have the right to claim financial damages for medical expenses, lost wages during recovery or emotional distress.

An attorney can help victims of truck accidents sort out the liability of various parties and find the best path forward to restitution.
