3 killed in Florida accident involving unlicensed driver

Florida may be well-known for the oceans and gulfs that surround it, but most Floridians get around on the land with cars, trucks or motorcycles. Unfortunately, the highways and roads of the Sunshine State rank highly in the nation's rates of collisions and fatalities in traffic.

There are several risk factors to consider when avoiding a potentially fatal accident on the roads of Florida. Driving while distracted by cellular telephones and other electronic devices can increase the likelihood of leaving the road or weaving into the opposing lane of traffic.

It is vital to avoid driving without proper licenses and insurance for the vehicle. A 32-year-old Englewood man has been cited for driving without either a license or insurance when his unregistered pickup truck collided with another truck, killing three people.

The accident occurred in Charlotte County, where an 80-year-old driver was proceeding from a stop into an intersection where his truck was hit by the unlicensed driver. The 80-year-old, as well as his 82-year-old and 73-year-old passengers, died at the scene.

Whether or not Florida prosecutors pursue criminal charges against the driver who was cited for not having a driver's license or vehicle insurance, the survivors of the victims of this accident are eligible to pursue financial damages, including reimbursement for funeral expenses and other costs related to the accident.

An attorney may help victims of motor vehicle accidents and their survivors figure out the best way forward in civil court cases and lawsuits. Legal representation is often recommended when car and truck collisions cause extensive damage, injury or death.
