Motorcyclist killed in central Florida collision

Motorcycles are one of the most convenient forms of transportation on the roads of the United States. Anyone who has been stuck in a traffic jam on the interstate highways outside Orlando or Florida's Turnpike near the urban sprawl of Miami can attest that they would rather be able to weave through traffic than be stuck in it.

Although motorcycles have many advantages over cars, trucks and other motor vehicles with four or more wheels, they have some significant disadvantages for some reasons that are worth considering for bikers and other drivers alike. The largest one concerns safety, as bikers on motorcyclists and bicycles have no external protection.

There are many things bikers can do to mitigate danger, such as defensive driving and avoiding dangerous situations. Motorcyclists should know to avoid close contact with fast-moving vehicles, as well as drive in the open if they must be on the road at dawn, dusk or other times when visibility is low.

A recent accident just after the dusk hours in Marion County cost a motorcyclist his life when a sport utility vehicle collided with his bike on a county road. The 64-year-old biker made an evasive maneuver within the roadway for an unknown reason when the other vehicle struck him. The Florida Highway Patrol is currently investigating.

Victims of motorcycle accidents and the survivors of motorcycle fatalities have the right to claim damages for expenses and compensation for pain and emotional distress if another driver was at fault. An attorney may help victims and their families investigate their options.
