Central Florida collision kills 1 driver

Florida is one of the most scenic states in the nation, from the breathtaking swamps of the Everglades to the coastal plains of Destin and the Panhandle. One of the best ways to cross the state is by car, and millions of Floridians commute or vacation in one every month.

Accidents are rare, but they happen and they can have disastrous consequences. Parkways, interstate highways and other limited-access roads can be hazardous due to the high speeds that cars and trucks can achieve on them.

The Florida Highway Patrol is currently investigating a motor vehicle collision that took a man's life on the South John Young Parkway near the Central Florida Parkway on a recent afternoon. A 31-year-old man feom Orlando was pronounced dead at the scene.

A 20-year-old driver, also from Orlando, was driving southbound on John Young Parkway when she apparently lost control of her vehicle and crossed the grass median into the northbound half of the road. She struck another car head-on as it drove the other direction.

Charges may be pending against the surviving driver, according to the Florida Highway Patrol. The road was blocked in the northbound direction as law enforcement officers investigated the scene.

Victims of damaging or injurious car accidents -- and the survivors of those killed in car accidents -- may have a civil case against an at-fault driver. An attorney experienced in personal injury may help build a case for reimbursement of medical expenses or compensation for pain, suffering or lost wages.
