Hit-and-run car found in Tampa

A car accident is always a difficult experience to deal with, even if damage or injury was minimal. Drivers are likely to second-guess their moves for a while to come, and the business of restoring cars with insurance coverage can be an onerous process.

Florida law gives specific guidelines on how to behave during and after a motor vehicle collision incident. One of the first and most important points in these guidelines is to never leave the scene of an accident. A driver who abandons one's vehicle or the scene of a collision may be liable for fines and jail times.

A bicyclist was struck and killed by a car in the dark early morning of a recent Wednesday on near U.S. Highway 301 in Hillsborough County. The Florida Highway Patrol claims that the bicycle was hit from the rear by a car which then drove off.

Troopers discovered parts of a silver Mercedes car at the scene, issuing a public alert to keep people looking for any matching car. A tip to the Tampa Police Department led officers to a damaged silver Mercedes in the city.

Shortly afterward, a 44-year-old man turned himself in to the Florida Highway Patrol claiming to be the driver. He was arrested and charged with leaving the scene of a crash involving a fatality.

Victims of motor vehicle accidents - whether drivers, passengers, bicyclists or pedestrians - may consult an attorney to seek a civil judgment or financial damages against an at-fault driver. It may be possible to receive reimbursement for medical expenses or compensation for pain and emotional distress.
