Semi rollover crashes in Florida are a significant danger

Trucks are the lifeblood of Florida's trade and shipping, and thousands of trucks line the state's highways and roads every day. Drivers can make mistakes or cause hazards on the road, and a recent pair of rollover crashes call attention to a potentially dangerous situation for surrounding vehicles.

A truck recently flipped in Pompano Beach, spilling more than 200 gallons of diesel fuel on the road and shutting an entrance to Florida's Turnpike. The driver claimed that the dangerous load, which included construction material and debris, shifted as he turned off the highway and caused him to lose control of the vehicle.

A similar incident paralyzed roads near Florida's capital during the same week. A truck driver was turning left into a gas station on the highway near an interstate when the trailer flipped over, taking the cab with it. Police say a weight shift occurred as the speed of the truck changed.

Both drivers of these vehicles escaped unharmed and caused minimal damage around the accidents. But the incidents call truck safety into question because of their potential to cause damage, injury or even fatalities on the highway.

Semi-trucks and trailers can be very dangerous if drivers lose control of them, even at low speeds. Overloaded or badly secured cargo can hit vehicles nearby, and hazardous materials shipped by truck can cause fires or other unexpected problems on the road.

Drivers and passengers who are injured by truck accidents may be eligible for reimbursement for medical expenses or damage incurred during the crash. Consider your options for legal representation if trucker error has caused damage or injury.
