Car crashes through living room and child's bedroom

In Tampa, a car left the roadway and crashed into a parked vehicle. That second vehicle was sitting right in front of a house, and the accident was so violent that the first car plowed right on into the home, smashing into a living room and a child's bedroom at just before 6 a.m.

The child's mother was home, and the crash woke her up. She said the driver of the vehicle was yelling for help.

In the chaos, the mother did not remember the good news: Her daughter actually wasn't home. She has two children, and they were both gone for the night, staying with relatives.

Pictures from the scene show the accident, with one car smashed so far into the house that it's sitting within the dwelling, only half of the car visible in overhead footage. It's clear that this was far worse than a vehicle simply hitting a wall and stopping.

People who live there say it's not all that uncommon. There is a hill running down to the crash site, and they said this wasn't the first car to go out of control. Others had hit poles, yards and mailboxes.

Now, with an accident where a child could easily have been killed, they're asking the authorities to make changes. They want drivers to slow down and they don't think there is enough lighting. There's a stop sign, but some drivers don't see it.

This accident had a relatively happy ending; even the driver wasn't seriously injured. However, it was an insanely close call, as the daughter could have been badly injured or killed had she simply been home like normal. When reckless or careless drivers cause accidents that hurt children, parents need to know what rights they have to financial compensation.
