Teen passenger dies when driver crashes stolen car

A 15-year-old girl is dead after a fiery car accident, and the 16-year-old boy who was driving the car is facing manslaughter charges.

According to police, the two were in a stolen vehicle. The girl did not have her seat belt on. Police saw the vehicle and attempted to pull it over, but the boy decided to run. At times, he led police on a wild chase at around 100 miles per hour.

The chase ended when the car was approaching a roundabout. It went off the road, smashed into a tree, and caught on fire.

Since she did not have the belt on, the impact tossed the girl out of the front passenger seat, and she ended up in the vehicle's back seat. Police said that the likely cause of death was severe head trauma that happened at the moment of impact with the tree.

The boy is also in the hospital, although he is expected to survive. Despite being just 16, he had already had run-ins with law enforcement and had a criminal record. When he gets out of the medical center, police are planning to charge him with manslaughter due to the girl's passing.

Drivers are responsible not just for driving in a manner that protects other motorists, but also in a way that keeps their own passengers safe. As such, families may be able to seek compensation, even after a single-car accident, when a passenger is killed and the driver survives.

It's especially important for them to know their rights to compensation if children are killed, as compensation may include lost future wages and earning potential.
