Summertime driving dangers

Each summer, there is more traffic on the roads than usual because of traveling tourists. Due to the increase in motorists, there are some summertime driving dangers that all vehicle operators in Florida should be aware of.

According to EverQuote, drivers can help to prevent accidents by preparing themselves before they start driving to keep the roads safe. Motorists should keep a watchful eye out for drivers who are not fully alert and appear to be sleepy. This is often the cause of the longer days and nights. Drivers should pay attention to their vehicles and maintain proper coolant levels to prevent stalling and overheating issues. Also, there are more teen motorists on the roads who may be engaging in distracted driving behaviors even though they lack driving experience. Tire blowouts are another danger. They are very likely to occur during the summer season from inadequate tire pressure and poor road conditions.

Motorists should plan to exercise safe driving habits and avoid engaging in negligent driving behaviors, states the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. Children are at risk for heatstroke, hyperthermia and other dangers and should not be left unattended in vehicles. They should be secured in properly installed car seats and booster seats to protect them from injury. All motorists and their passengers should wear seat belts each and every time they hit the road.

Drivers should regularly inspect their vehicles for repair issues, especially the treads on their tires and the air pressure inside of them. Motorists should also avoid consuming alcohol before getting behind the wheel. Drivers who drink should look into drunk driving alternatives, such as taxi services and designated drivers.

Drivers who are aware of the dangers they face on the road during the summer can take appropriate measures to protect themselves and their passengers.
