Traffic maneuver costs car passenger her life

Florida sees more and more drivers on the roads each year, leading to increased likelihood of motor vehicle accidents. More than 3,000 people died in car accidents in the state in 2016, the highest level ever for Florida.

Interstate highways and other limited-access roads offer the fastest and most convenient ways across significant distance, and in some areas traffic can exceed 80 miles per hour on these roads. The assortment of many vehicle types, including motorcycles and tractor-trailers, adds to the hazards that drivers may face.

A 47-year-old woman from Palm Harbor died after a recent collision on Florida State Road 20 in Liberty County. She was the passenger in a car that was struck by another car that was trying to pass a tractor-trailer.

The incident happened under cover of darkness, at just after 3 a.m. on a Saturday. This is a particularly dangerous time for drivers, who may face problems such as people driving under the influence or distracted by bright lights or their cell phones.

It is vital that drivers avoid unnecessary risks such as high-speed passes and tight maneuvers around trucks and other slower and less maneuverable vehicles. Even minor collisions with cars or trucks traveling at high speeds can result in serious injury, heavy damage or even death.

Victims of motor vehicle accidents, or the families of those killed in accidents, have the right to pursue financial damages to make them as whole as possible. Legal representation is an advisable move towards sorting out the potential options for settlements or court actions.
