Fatal Florida truck accident may be drug-related

Florida's traffic accident record demands that drivers remain alert and aware to maintain safety. The state has seen more than 250,000 collisions so far in 2017, with 1,783 people losing their lives after them. This is a higher count than the same period of 2016.

Professional drivers, with more time on the road in large or unusual vehicles, are responsible for a good deal of road safety wherever they drive and work. It is vital that drivers avoid driving tired or being negligent on the road to avoid potentially fatal collisions with passenger cars, motorcycles or pedestrians.

Driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs is one of the greatest dangers on the road, as it affects drivers' ability to pay attention and react quickly. A recent head-on collision in Marion County that killed a father, mother and son may have been caused by this awful trend.

A tow truck driver may have been on drugs, according to the Florida Highway Patrol, when he veered off the road and overcorrected to end up in the way of opposing traffic. He struck an SUV, containing a family of three, all of whom were pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the truck suffered injuries and was transported to a hospital, where he was arrested on charges of DUI manslaughter, vehicular homicide, careless driving and other related crimes.

Victims of truck accidents and their families may seek damages and compensation after an at-fault accident that causes damage, injury or death. A legal advocate can help victims sort their options for settlements or court actions.
